For a step-by-step guide, see our complete resource on finding, choosing, and booking a wedding band in London.

How far in advance should I book my wedding band?

Most couples start booking their London wedding band around 9 months in advance, but the most popular bands often get reserved much earlier. To secure your preferred band, it’s best to begin your search up to 18 months before your wedding, especially for summer weekend weddings in London.

If you're planning an off-season wedding (between October and March) or a weekday wedding, it should be fine to book your band 9 months in advance. Plus, planning an off-season wedding will also help you to save money on your wedding band

How much does a wedding band in London cost?

London wedding bands range in price from around £900 for a 3-piece band, to almost £10,000 for a 9-piece show band with several vocalists, brass and percussion.

That said, the typical price paid for a band in 2025 was around the £1375 mark, and the most popular line-up was a 4-piece.

Bear in mind that your quote may be higher than the band's starting price listed on the website. The key factors affecting price are: the distance of your venue from the band's home location and demand (summer Saturdays are more expensive).

What's included in the quote for a wedding band?

When you request a quote for a London wedding band, we’ll provide a detailed breakdown of all costs and inclusions. Our quotes typically cover everything you need for a seamless performance, from set-up and soundcheck to live performance, equipment, lighting, and travel:

  • arrival at your venue from 5pm or 6pm to set up and do a sound-check.
  • all equipment required for the performance, including lighting
  • 2 x 60 minute or 3 x 40 minute performances up until midnight
  • recorded music between sets (eg. via an mp3 player)
  • all travel expenses (and accommodation if applicable)
  • PAT and PLI certificates if required
  • 24/7 support and 5-star rated customer service, right up until your booking date

How many musicians are in your London wedding bands?

London wedding bands come in a variety of line-ups, but most start as a 3-piece featuring a singer/guitarist, bass and drums — perfect for rock, pop and indie weddings. As you increase the number of musicians, you expand the band’s sound, allowing them to cover more genres and create a fuller, more dynamic live performance.

As more instruments are added, so too will the variety of genres the band can cover – larger line-ups adding keyboards and brass instruments can authentically reproduce soul, Motown and R&B covers, as well as rock and pop music.

Larger bands featuring both male and female vocalists will mean a larger vocal range and therefore increase the number of songs available to the band.

Line-ups is just one of the essential topics covered in our guide to the must-ask questions for your wedding band

What kind of music do your London wedding bands play?

Our London wedding bands perform a wide range of popular music, covering rock, pop, soul and Motown classics that are perfect for filling the dancefloor and entertaining guests of all ages.

Other genres covered include: UK garage, dance, R&B, festival folk, and various vintage styles, from rock'n'roll to 70s funk and disco, 80s new wave and 90s Britpop.

If popular music isn't your bag, consider a wedding ceilidh band, a jazz band or a brass and drums fusion band.

From Bowie in Brixton and The Clash in Camden, to the Beatles in Abbey Road – London's popular music legacy is felt across the world and the obvious place to source a fantastic wedding band!

Can you provide wedding jazz bands in London?

Yes, we provide a wide range of wedding jazz bands in London, from elegant background jazz ensembles to lively swing bands for after-dinner dancing. While this page features a selection of London swing and jazz acts, you’ll find our full roster on our dedicated London jazz bands page.

Here you'll find gypsy jazz and trad jazz bands – perfect for garden wedding receptions – as well as upbeat modern jazz trios and quartets for indoor drinks receptions and meals.

Do your London wedding band take requests?

Yes, most London wedding bands are happy to take song requests and help personalise your playlist for the big day. The easiest way to get the best performance is to choose favourites from the band’s own setlist, but they’ll usually be glad to discuss special requests or songs you’d prefer to avoid.

While the band will always do their best to play your requests, they may need to switch things up based on audience reaction. Playing to the mood of the crowd on the night is the best way to ensure a full dance floor all night long.

For some playlist inspiration, check our round-up of party songs to fill your dancefloor

Will bands learn our first dance song?

Yes, many London wedding bands will happily learn and perform your first dance song live, provided the track suits their style and line-up. Most acts list whether they can learn a first dance on their profile, so you can easily check what’s included before booking.

Check the act’s profile to see if they offer this option and try to give plenty of notice for them to learn your request.

Alternatively, all of our bands can play your first dance on an mp3 or iPod through their PA system.

Do I need to provide anything for my wedding band on the day?

You don’t need to provide much for your London wedding band, as all our bands come fully equipped with their own sound and instruments. For larger events (with 200 or more guests) or bands over 3–4 members, it’s worth checking in advance, as extra equipment may be needed to ensure a seamless performance.

You just need to make sure that the band has a power source to plug into and a space to perform! We recommend a flat and sheltered stage area of at least 3x3 meters for a 3-piece band – then add an extra metre squared per band member that you have booked.

A raised stage is preferable for maximum impact, but our bands are flexible to all kinds of spaces!

Do your wedding bands have insurance and PAT-tested equipment?

Yes, all of our wedding bands are fully insured and have PAT tested equipment.

When will my London wedding band arrive and start playing?

Our function bands in London typically arrive at your venue from 5pm or 6pm and take 60 - 90 minutes to unload, set up and soundcheck their equipment to ensure the best performance possible.

It’s ideal if a room can be cleared whilst they do this, but it’s not essential, they can perform a silent “line-check” to test their levels if not.

The band will then get dressed, eat and return at approximately 9pm to get your party started!

Many London wedding venues will have parking restrictions, loading bays and lifts. Let the band know in advance what the set-up is at your venue to avoid delays.

How long do your bands perform for on the day?

Most London wedding bands perform for around two hours, typically split into two one-hour sets with recorded interval music in between. Some bands can also offer three 40-minute sets, giving you flexibility to plan live music throughout your wedding or event.

All of our bands can provide recorded interval music free of charge between their sets, so the dancing never needs to stop.

It also means if your favourite song isn’t in the band’s repertoire you can still hear it.

Make sure you check out our 129 best wedding songs before deciding on a playlist.

Can your London wedding bands perform outdoors?

Yes, many of our London wedding bands are fully able to perform outdoors, making them ideal for garden parties, marquee weddings and open-air receptions. To ensure a smooth performance, the band will simply need suitable cover from the weather and access to a safe power supply.

Feel free to get in touch and enquire about any specific requirements that your chosen band may need.

Where have your London function bands performed?

Our London function bands have performed at many of the city’s most popular wedding venues, corporate event spaces and party locations. All the venues listed below are fully equipped to host live bands, musicians and DJs, and we return to them several times each year.

In Central London: The Bloomsbury Ballroom, the Barbican, Stationer's Hall, Claridges, Devonshire Terrace, The Lansdowne Club, RAC Club, The Yacht at Temple Pier and Westminster Hall.

Do I need to book a DJs as well as a band?

You don’t always need to book a separate London wedding DJ when hiring one of our bands. All our London wedding bands provide complimentary recorded music during their breaks, keeping your wedding or event’s music flowing seamlessly until the end of the night.

Many bands are also able to upgrade to a more advanced service using virtual DJ software so that they can mix songs and take your guests’ requests.

As a general rule, if you need DJ music for more than 2 hours before, between or after the band's performance, we'd recommend booking a separate DJ.

What happens if my band cancels or a musician is ill?

If a member of your London wedding band falls ill or cannot perform on the day, a professional substitute musician will be arranged. In the unlikely event that the entire band is unavailable, Function Central will secure a replacement band or musician of a similar style and quality to ensure your wedding entertainment goes ahead as planned.

How can we save money on a wedding band in London?

There are several ways to save money on your wedding band without compromising on quality:

  1. Use your wedding band for multiple parts of the day. Before booking separate musicians for afternoon background music, check if your London wedding band can provide an acoustic guitarist, cocktail pianist, or small ensemble earlier in the day. This can save you additional costs and simplify your entertainment planning.
  2. Choose off-peak dates. If your wedding date is flexible, consider a midweek or winter wedding in London. Many wedding bands offer more competitive rates during these times.
  3. Hire local bands. Booking a London wedding band based near your venue can reduce travel and accommodation expenses. We work with professional musicians and bands across most major towns and cities in the UK, making it easy to find a great local act.

By following these tips, you can enjoy a high-quality live wedding band while keeping your entertainment costs under control.
