Guide to booking wedding function bands in Yorkshire

How do I book a wedding band in Yorkshire?

Booking a wedding band in Yorkshire starts with deciding what type of live music will suit your celebration — from high‑energy pop and party bands that fill the dancefloor to elegant swing or acoustic sets for drinks and dinner. Think about the mood you want, the size of the band you can afford (Yorkshire wedding bands range from 3‑piece to 10‑piece line‑ups), and the genres you love before you begin your search.

Add your favourite bands to your enquiry list basket, then fill in the enquiry form (to access your basket and the form, click the basket icon at the top right of the page). We'll check availability and get back to you with a quote, by email, within 24 hours. If you need advice, call us at 0333 242 0560.

If you'd like to book a band, just send us an email including your venue address and contact info, if not already provided. We'll then put together a booking contract and invoice you for a deposit to secure the band (the balance is usually payable at least 14 days prior to your event date).

How many months in advance should I book?

To secure the best Yorkshire wedding band for your date, it’s smart to start your search well ahead of time. For peak dates like summer Saturdays, most couples begin booking up to 18 months in advance to lock in their preferred live band.

In practice, many couples in Yorkshire book their wedding band around 9 months before the wedding, while for winter or midweek weddings, booking 6 months ahead is often sufficient.

Can you help me choose the right Yorkshire band for my wedding?

Choosing the right Yorkshire wedding band is an important part of planning your big day.

What’s included in a Yorkshire wedding band quote?

A professional Yorkshire wedding band quote will give you a clear, all-inclusive price for your live music entertainment, covering everything you need for an unforgettable evening. Once we’ve received your enquiry, we’ll calculate the total cost and send you a detailed quote.

Our quote will likely cover the following:

  • arrival at your venue from 5pm or 6pm to set up and do a sound-check.
  • all equipment required for the performance, including lighting
  • 2 x 60 minute or 3 x 40 minute sets through till midnight
  • recorded interval music between sets
  • all expenses (excluding parking if your venue can't provide this)
  • all necessary insurance and equipment certificates
  • 24/7 support and our award-winning customer service, right up until your booking date

How can we save money on our Yorkshire wedding band?

There are several smart ways to cut costs on live wedding music in Yorkshire, from using your main band for multiple parts of the day to choosing the right date and location to keep travel expenses low.

  • Before you book more musicians for afternoon background music, check whether members of your party band can provide this – it'll save you additional costs, such as travel.
  • If you haven't yet set your date, consider booking a midweek or winter celebration to take advantage of the most competitive rates.
  • Consider hiring a band based in Yorkshire, to save on travel and accommodation costs. We have acts based in most major towns and cities.

Which music genres do your Yorkshire wedding bands play?

Our Yorkshire wedding bands cover a wide variety of popular music genres to suit every celebration — from upbeat pop and rock to soul, Motown and speciality styles that get all ages dancing.

Smaller guitar-based line-ups tend to focus on rock and indie, whilst larger line-ups including keyboards and brass lean towards soul, funk and Motown.

If pop music isn’t your thing, don't worry – we have acts covering more specialised genres such as swing, ceilidh, and Latin.

Yorkshire is also the birthplace for Britain's brass band tradition. These days you're more likely to find them paired with a drummer, playing pop songs – it's a refreshing alternative to the classic Yorkshire function band format.

Do your Yorkshire wedding bands take song requests?

Many Yorkshire wedding bands are happy to accommodate song requests and special music choices so you can personalise your live wedding entertainment. Once we’ve received your details, we’ll check with the band about learning any extra songs you’d like them to perform.

Most bands will consider learning one new song that doesn't already appear on their song list. But we'll need to ask the band to approve it first – so let us know in good time.

If it's an unusual song choice or it's difficult to arrange, the band may need to put on the recorded version instead, via an mp3 player.

Do you offer jazz bands or other background musicians in Yorkshire?

Yes, we can connect you with a wide range of Yorkshire wedding musicians for every part of your celebration, including jazz bands, acoustic artists and other background music options to suit your drinks reception, wedding meal or ceremony.

It's also worth browsing our soul bandsceilidh bands and latin & world musicians.

For even more offbeat ideas, see our alternative bands section.

If you're after music for your ceremony, choose from our range of acts to play you down the aisle and back again.

Our harpists or string quartets are a popular choice to make those moments extra special.

Do all your Yorkshire function bands bring their own sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, our Yorkshire wedding and function bands arrive fully equipped with their own professional sound systems and lighting rigs, so you won’t need to source extra gear for your live music entertainment.

All bands bring their own PA, microphones, backline amplifiers and instruments, which works well for most marquee or indoor weddings, and most will also include stage and dancefloor lighting. If you are expecting over 250 guests, just let us know so we can check that the band’s system will be large enough.

This type of setup is standard for professional wedding bands in the UK, with most acts supplying everything they need to perform live.

Do your wedding bands have insurance and PAT-tested equipment?

Yes, our Yorkshire wedding bands are fully insured and have PAT-tested equipment.

How long will the band perform for?

Most Yorkshire wedding bands perform around 2 hours of live music, usually split into 2 × 60-minute sets or 3 × 40-minute sets, giving your guests plenty of time to dance and enjoy the party.

We find 2 hours works best for most events, but many bands will be happy to reduce or extend their performance as required.

When will the band start their sets on the day?

Yorkshire wedding bands usually begin their live sets in the evening once your formalities are complete and guests are ready to dance, often around 8 pm–9 pm depending on the season and your schedule.

We recommend no earlier than around 9 pm in summer and 8 pm in winter so that guests are relaxed, lighting is effective, and the dancefloor is ready for a party!

What happens on the band’s breaks?

During a live wedding band’s set breaks, most Yorkshire wedding bands will keep the music going by playing recorded music or a DJ-style playlist through their PA system, so your guests aren’t left in silence between the live sets.

Many are able to upgrade to a more advanced service using virtual DJ software so that they can mix songs and take requests – check the band’s profile page for details.

Can your Yorkshire bands play outdoors?

Yes, many Yorkshire wedding bands are happy to play live music outdoors at your wedding or drinks reception, as long as there’s suitable shelter to protect the band and their equipment and access to a reliable power supply.

Give us a call if you’re unsure if your venue will fit the bill and we’ll be more than happy to advise.

Where in Yorkshire have your wedding bands performed before?

From romantic moors to a stunning coastline, Yorkshire is an incredible setting for a wedding. Our Yorkshire wedding bands have played live at a wide range of popular wedding venues and locations across Yorkshire, from major cities like Sheffield, Hull, Leeds and Bradford to historic towns and romantic countryside settings throughout the county.

Our wedding bands have played in all major centres throughout the county including: Sheffield, Hull, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Halifax, Batley, Dewsbury, Keighley, Castleford, Brighouse, Pudsey, Morley, Pontefract, Shipley and Bingley.

There's no finer place for a craggy, romantic country house wedding fit for Jane Eyre and our bands have played them all, from Allerton and Ripley to Hazlewood and Danby.

Some of our other favourite Yorkshire wedding venues include: Cedar Court Hotel, East Riddlesden Hall, Wentbridge House, Oakwell Hall, Kings Croft Hotel and Holdsworth House.

Our venue has a sound limiter — what should we do?

Many Yorkshire wedding bands can play with a sound limiter, the first thing you need to do is find out the limiter's threshold in decibels. If it's set to a threshold below 95 decibels, let us know immediately, as some bands will struggle to keep within this range. Some bands will be able to substitute live drums for electronic drums, which will bring down the overall level of the band.

If the threshold is in the range of 80-85dB, this may limit your choice of bands to duos or acoustic set-ups.

Do I need to book a separate wedding DJ in Yorkshire?

You don’t necessarily need to book a separate Yorkshire wedding DJ — many wedding bands include recorded music or a DJ‑style service during their breaks and can even play music before or after their live sets so your celebration has continuous entertainment.

Bands will play pre‑recorded music between sets from their own playlist or one you provide, some acts offer an upgraded DJ‑style service for before/after their performance.

There are some circumstances where it might be worth hiring a wedding DJ as well as the band:

  • If you're planning on finishing very late, it might be more cost-effective to hire a separate DJ than pay the whole band to stay on.
  • If you have specialised tastes or beat-matching is particularly important to you, a DJ might be the best option for you.

What happens if the band cancels or a musician is ill?

If a band member becomes unavailable before your wedding, your Yorkshire wedding band will arrange a fully-rehearsed substitute musician, so your event goes ahead without compromise.
In the unlikely case the entire band is unable to perform, we’ll work hard to find a replacement band (in a similar genre and price range) from our network of Yorkshire wedding bands, musicians and DJs.
