Guide to booking wedding bands in Manchester

How much does a wedding band cost in Manchester?

In 2025 the average price our customers have paid for wedding bands is £1675, however smaller Manchester bands such as The Fade, were booked for just £810.

Note that the "from" price listed on our band's profile pages is reflective of an event local to Manchester, in the off-season. You can expect a higher quote depending on the distance of your venue from the band's home location and your event date.

What’s included in the cost of a band?

When you book a Manchester wedding band through us, your quote is usually all-inclusive, covering everything you need for a full evening’s entertainment without hidden extras. Typically included are:

• Arrival at your venue around 5:30 pm for setup and sound-check (most bands need 60–90 minutes before they start)
• Complete performance sound and lighting setup (PAT-tested PA, stage lighting, etc.), enough for both music and any formal announcements or speeches
• Live music sets — e.g. 2 x 60-minute sets or 3 x 40-minute sets, ending by midnight (unless an extended finish is requested)
• Background recorded music (playlist) between sets, so the atmosphere stays lively even when the band is off-stage
• All travel (and accommodation if necessary) for the band, plus any associated expenses
• Public Liability Insurance and safety-certified (PAT-tested) equipment — often a requirement for venues and peace of mind for you.
• Full support from booking through to the event — coordination, scheduling, and troubleshooting, ensuring smooth delivery on the day.

What music styles do Manchester wedding bands offer?

Manchester wedding bands can cover a wide variety of music styles, from upbeat pop and rock to soulful Motown, indie-folk, Latin, swing, jazz or even acoustic sets. Whether you’re after chart hits, golden oldies or a genre-specific vibe, we can match you with a band that fits your taste and wedding atmosphere.

So, you can expect to hear songs by The Beatles, Oasis, Stevie Wonder as well as songs by modern artists such as Lizzo, Dua Lipa and The Weeknd.

Saying that, if you favour one genre over the other, we would recommend doing the following:

  • if you're into your rock, pop and indie, hire a 3- or 4-piece band featuring electric guitars, drums and vocals.
  • if you're after a soul, Motown or R&B sound, book 5-piece or upwards, featuring keyboards and brass.
  • if you like your indie music on the folkish side, book a festival folk band featuring acoustic guitars and double bass.

If pop music isn’t your thing, don't worry – we have a range of alternative genres, from festival folk to Latin, ceilidh, and swing. Browse the menus above to find the perfect genre for your day.

Can you provide jazz bands in Manchester?

Yes, we offer a full selection of Manchester jazz bands, from classy background duos and trios to lively swing quartets and full jazz ensembles. Check out our Manchester jazz bands page.

Can you provide background wedding musicians in Manchester?

Yes, all bands listed above are suitable for dancing at evening receptions but if you're after music earlier on in the day as well as the evening, our selection of Manchester wedding musicians is second to none.

Hire classical musicians to serenade you down the aisle, or book a wedding singer to break the ice during the wedding banquet.

Hire a harpist or string quartet for your bridal procession and photos, as well as acoustic musicians for your wedding drinks or banquet.

In fact, from your bridal entrance through to the last limo of the night, we’ve got your entertainment covered!

Will bands take song requests?

Yes, Manchester wedding bands often accept song requests, so you can ask for your favourite tracks from their repertoire.

You’ll find each band’s repertoire on their profile pages and you’re welcome to flag up any preferred songs from the list and ask that any you don’t like are left out. While the band will do their best to play as many of your requests as possible, they may need to change things up according to audience response. The best bands work with their audience and gauge the mood on the night. Trust us (we’ve been doing this for a long time!), this is the best way to keep feet on the dance floor all night long.

For playlist ideas, read through our round-up of the best wedding party songs.

Can Manchester wedding bands learn our first dance / special songs?

Yes, many Manchester wedding bands are happy to learn your first dance song (or a special song) so they can play it live at your wedding. However, this will depend on the song choice and whether it can be easily reproduced by the band's specific instrumentation.

Let us know if you have a request, and we'll run it past the band. Since the band may need to schedule extra rehearsal time to learn it, we recommend sending us your request as soon as you can.

If the band don't think they can easily reproduce your first dance or do it justice, they’ll be more than happy to play it via an mp3 or Spotify through their own PA system.

When do bands start playing?

Most Manchester wedding bands begin their evening sets from around 8:30 pm which is ideal for after-dinner dancing. Most bands will perform two 60-minute sets with a break in between where recorded music will play through the PA system.

A start time any earlier than this is not recommended as it may still be light outside, and guests may be less in the mood for dancing.

Do Manchester wedding bands require soundcheck on arrival?

Yes, our Manchester wedding bands will require a soundcheck on arrival, this will typically take 60 to 90 minutes.

It’s generally best if the performance space is free of guests at this point, but most bands can arrange a "silent" line-check to keep the volume down, if you prefer.

What happens in the interval? Do I need to book a Manchester DJ?

Our Manchester wedding bands will play recorded music through their PA system between live sets, so you don’t need a separate DJ just to keep your guests dancing.

They'll likely take one 15–20-minute interval between their sets (or two intervals if performing 3 x 40 minute sets).

Some bands also offer their own in-house DJ service. This is recommended if you'd like to make specific requests for songs to be played in the intervals, or if you'd like mixed songs.

For a larger lighting rig, and late-night finishes, we'd recommend booking a separate party DJ.

Can a Manchester band perform outdoors/ at outdoor venues?

Yes, many Manchester wedding bands are available for outdoor venues, provided there’s adequate shelter and power supply for their equipment.

Give us a call if you’re unsure if your outdoor wedding venue will fit the bill and we’ll be more than happy to advise.

Is there anything I need to provide for the band?

Most Manchester wedding bands come fully equipped — you typically don’t need to provide anything more than a flat, level performance area and power supply. If your guest list exceeds around 250 people you may want to let us know, as extra equipment might be required.

For the performance itself, you will need to provide your performers with a flat, level performance area or stage, measuring at least 4m wide x 3 meters deep for a 4-piece band – add an extra meter per band member as applicable.

The band will also require a power source for their equipment and a raised stage is preferable although not essential.

Do your wedding bands have insurance and PAT-tested equipment?

Yes, all of our Manchester wedding bands are fully insured and have PAT-tested equipment.

Where have your function bands played in Manchester?

Our Manchester wedding bands have played at events throughout the city, including Bolton, Sale, Rochdale, Stockport, Salford, Wigan, Oldham, Bury, Atherton, Altrincham, Trafford, Piccadilly, Hulme Rochdale, Glossop, Cheadle and Eccles.

Whether your hosting your reception at Worsley Park, King Street Townhouse, Great John Street, The Castlefield Rooms, The Lowry, Albert's Restaurant & Bar or Didsbury House Hotel, our wedding bands have performed in some of Manchester's best wedding venues and are set to help you dance the night away.

You can also hire a Manchester band to perform anywhere in the UK and internationally.

What happens if the band cancels or a musician is ill?

If a band member becomes unavailable before your wedding, the Manchester wedding band will arrange a fully-rehearsed substitute musician, so your event goes ahead without compromise.

In the unlikely case the entire band is unable to perform, we’ll work hard to find a replacement band (in a similar genre and price range) from our network of Manchester wedding bands, musicians and DJs.

How can we save money on our wedding band?

There are a number of ways you can save money on your Manchester wedding band, here’s some of our top suggestions:

  • Before you book more musicians for afternoon background music, check whether members of your wedding band can provide this – it'll save you additional costs, such as travel.
  • If you haven't yet set your date, consider booking a midweek or winter celebration to take advantage of the most competitive rates.
  • Always consider hiring a band from your local area, to save on travel and accommodation costs.
