Booking a festival folk band for your wedding or party?

What sort of music do your festival folk bands play?

Our festival folk bands play an eclectic mix of indie folk songs by artists such as Noah and the Whale, The Lumineers and of course Mumford & Sons.

But if you love your pop anthems, don't despair. Most bands listed here perform arrangements of classic and contemporary rock and pop music (with a folksy twist). These will often feature frenzied strumming on acoustic guitars!

Expect to hear uptempo songs by artists like Avicii, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber. These songs became famous at the festivals and are a novel way of enjoying your favourite chart-toppers.

We also have bands playing more traditional folk music, if you prefer.

What sort of events do your festival folk bands play at?

Festival folk bands are the perfect choice for rustic, vintage weddings, or for creating a laidback festival feel at your summer garden party.

What's a festival wedding band?

Festival wedding bands and modern folk wedding bands are essentially the same thing – they typically perform indie folk music as well as a few pop covers in a folksy style. Also, they dress in a similar style to bands like Mumford & Sons (think flat caps and waistcoats).

So what's the connection with festivals? Aside from the fact that many indie folk bands like Mumford and Sons became famous on the festival circuit, these bands are often associated with the independent spirit, values and characteristics of many modern music festivals.

Why should I book a folk wedding band?

There are many reasons why we'd recommend booking a folk wedding band. Here are a few:

  • Uptempo and lively: Fancy an indie-folk-fuelled knees-up to fiddles, acoustic guitars and double bass? Our folk wedding bands play fast-paced, uptempo music to get guests up and dancing!
  • Unique sound: Indie folk music is known for its unique sound, which blends traditional folk instruments with modern elements such as electric guitars, drums. It's a fresh twist on the classic function band format.
  • Great for a rustic or DIY wedding. Indie folk wedding bands are a great fit for weddings which prioritise creativity and individuality. They're ideal if you're looking for more organic/acoustic instruments, less pop music and less of a corporate feel.
  • Great for summer weddings. The indie folk sound is often associated with the carefree and celebratory spirit of summer music festivals, so they're ideally suited to summer weddings or a weddings with a festival theme.
  • Great for all ages. Indie folk music has a wide appeal, appealing to both young and old, and can be enjoyed by a diverse range of people. It can be a great way to bring people together and creating a shared experience.
  • Not too loud. Folk wedding bands use predominantly acoustic instruments such as guitars, banjos, violins, meaning they're usually easy on the ears too.

So put up the bunting and celebrate at a barn wedding in the countryside, or just relive the memories of Glastonbury in your own backyard!

Do your festival folk bands bring all their own equipment?

Our festival folk bands will arrive fully equipped with everything they need to put on a great show. This includes their own sound system, microphones, backline amplifiers, and instruments.

If you are expecting a large audience (more than 200 guests), let us know before you book, so we can ensure the band's system is appropriate.

In addition to the equipment, most bands will also bring their own stage lighting, adding to the overall atmosphere.

How long do your folk bands play for?

A standard folk wedding band performance is two hours, split over 2 x 1-hour or 3 x 40-minute sets with short intervals.

But bands can play for less time, or longer (usually for an additional cost) if it suits your event better.

Do your folk wedding bands take first dance requests?

Many of our folk wedding bands will consider learning a first dance request, often free of charge, although this depends on how easy the song is to arrange.

Send us the song request as soon as you can, so we can make sure the band has adequate time to learn it.

If the band can’t perform your song live, they can play it through their PA system instead. They can either use their own device to play the track, or plug your device into their system instead.

Will I need to book a DJ as well?

Not necessarily – all our folk bands will play recorded music during their interval, through their PA, free of charge. This means they'll be able to keep the music going until closing time.

Many of our folk bands are able to upgrade to a more advanced service using virtual DJ software so that they can mix songs and take your guests’ requests.

If you have specialised music requests for the intervals, need extra lighting, or you're planning a very late finish, we'd recommend booking a professional DJ.
