Guide to booking wedding & function bands in Bristol

Can you help us choose the right Bristol wedding band for us?

Have your bands played at weddings in Bristol before?

Yes, our hand‑picked Bristol wedding bands have extensive experience performing live at weddings and events across Bristol and the surrounding areas, filling dancefloors from Clifton to Temple Meads and beyond.

Having produced talent as varied as Massive Attack and The Eagles, music beats at the very heart of the city and your celebration deserves to continue that tradition!

Our bands have played in all areas including Clifton, Totterdown, Temple Meads, Redcliffe, Montpellier and Stoke Bishop – and also travel far beyond.

We've had crowds up and dancing at some of Bristol’s best wedding venues such as Old Down Estate, St Audries Park, Berwick Lodge, Manor By The Lake, Clevedon Hall, Aldwick Estate, Hamswell House, The Bishop's Palace and Farrington Park.

Our bands are hand-picked, so that you can be sure you’ll get fantastic entertainment that your guests will remember long after the party has finished.

What style of music do your Bristol wedding bands play?

Our Bristol wedding bands play a dynamic range of live music, specialising in crowd‑pleasing rock and pop anthems alongside soulful, brass‑infused pop and classic hits perfect for weddings and receptions.

3-piece and 4-piece line-ups tend to focus on rock and pop music from Beatles and Buddy Holly to Coldplay, The Killers and Mumford and Sons, whilst line-ups including keyboards and brass sections allow them to perform soul and soul-infused pop music from Chaka Khan to Bruno Mars.

Can you provide other genres of wedding or function bands in Bristol?

Yes, we can provide a wide variety of other live music genres beyond pop and R&B with our Bristol wedding and function bands, including jazz ensembles, ceilidh groups

Can your Bristol wedding musicians perform earlier in the day, not just for the evening party?

We can provide Bristol wedding musicians for every part of your special day, not just the evening wedding reception.

Classical musicians can make for a magical accompaniment during ceremonies, so why not hire a string quartet to accompany you whilst you walk down the aisle?

For a more upbeat ambience at your drinks reception, you could book a wedding singer.

Can the band play our first dance song?

Yes, our Bristol wedding bands are usually happy to learn and perform your chosen first dance song live as part of your Bristol wedding entertainment, creating an unforgettable moment on the dance floor.

If the act’s line-up or preparation time mean that it isn’t possible, they’ll be more than happy to play your first dance from an mp3 or Spotify through their own PA system.

How long will the band perform at our Bristol wedding?

Our Bristol wedding bands typically perform two live sets of around 60 minutes each as part of your wedding entertainment, giving you roughly two hours of live music during your evening reception that gets everyone dancing.

With a standard 30-minute interval half way through, you’ll usually be looking at a midnight finish.

Please note that if the band or their DJ services are required after midnight, late fees can apply.

Will Bristol weddings bands need to soundcheck when they arrive?

Yes, professional Bristol wedding bands will typically need to arrive early and perform a soundcheck when they arrive at your venue so they can set up their equipment and adjust sound levels for your wedding reception.

A 5pm-6pm arrival time and a 60-90 minute soundcheck is typically workable.

It is generally best if the performance space is free of guests at this point but most bands can arrange a ‘noiseless’ line-check to keep the volume down if this isn’t possible.

What happens when there is an interval in the band’s sets?

During set breaks, our Bristol wedding bands can keep your celebration going by playing pre-recorded music through their PA system so there’s no lull in the entertainment during your wedding reception.

Some bands can also provide proper DJ sets before or after their performance – check their profile for more details.

Does the band have their own sound and lighting equipment?

All of our Bristol wedding bands and live wedding musicians come fully self-contained with their own professional sound, lighting and performance equipment, so you won’t need to provide any PA system or tech gear for your wedding entertainment

If you are expecting your event to exceed 250 guests, extra equipment could be necessary, so please do get in touch.

We recommend a flat and sheltered stage area of at least 3x3 meters for a 3-piece band – then add an extra metre squared per band member that you have booked.

A raised stage is preferable for maximum impact, but our bands are flexible to all kinds of spaces!

Is there anything else we need to prepare for the band in advance?

Yes, for your Bristol wedding band to give their best performance, it’s important to plan in advance for hospitality such as meals, drinks and an appropriate space for them to rest and prepare during your wedding day.

You’ll find specific details on your booking contract.

Our venue has a sound limiter. How will this affect the band’s performance?

If your wedding venue in Bristol has a sound limiter, it can affect how your live Bristol wedding band performs because these devices monitor the volume in decibels and will cut power or restrict levels if the music goes above the set limit.

Firstly, find out the limiter's threshold in decibels. If it's set to a threshold below 95 decibels, let us know immediately, as some bands will struggle to keep within this range. We can then find out if the band is able to substitute live drums for electronic drums, which will bring down the overall level of the band.

If the threshold is in the range of 80-85dB, this may limit your choice of bands to duos or acoustic set-ups.

Do we need to hire a wedding DJ too?

Not necessarily, many Bristol wedding bands provide recorded music during breaks and can even offer a DJ service before, between and after their live sets so you don’t have to hire a separate wedding DJ unless you want specific late-night entertainment.

There are only a couple of instances where we think it’s best to hire a wedding DJ in addition to a wedding band:

  • Firstly, if you’re planning a late finish, it may be more cost effective to simply book a DJ rather than pay for an entire band to stay on.
  • Secondly, if you have specialist tastes or beat matching is important to you, we’d recommend booking a DJ.

How can we save money on our wedding band?

You can save money on hiring a Bristol wedding band by choosing local musicians, booking your date in an off-peak season or midweek, and making the most of your band’s existing services rather than hiring extra acts or equipment:

  • Before you book more musicians for afternoon background music, check whether members of your wedding band can provide this – it'll save you additional costs, such as travel.
  • If you haven't yet set your date, consider booking a midweek or winter celebration to take advantage of the most competitive rates.
  • Always consider hiring a band from your local area, to save on travel and accommodation costs. We have acts based in most major towns and cities across the UK.

Check out our top tips on how to save money on your wedding band for more ideas.

Do your wedding bands have insurance and PAT-tested equipment?

Yes, our Bristol wedding bands are fully insured and have PAT-tested equipment.

What happens if the band cancels or a musician is ill?

If a band member becomes unavailable before your wedding, your Bristol wedding band will arrange a fully-rehearsed substitute musician, so your event goes ahead without compromise.

In the unlikely case the entire band is unable to perform, we’ll work hard to find a replacement band (in a similar genre and price range) from our network of Bristol and south west wedding bands, musicians and DJs.
